Hi: I'm new to this forum and my daughter has been suffering with chronic Lyme for 3-years and of cousre it went undected for 2.5 years due to the incompetence of more than 10 so-called healthcare professioanls. We are now with a Lyme specialist in Rhinebeck, NY and I was wondering if anyone can share statistics with me. I am curious about how many indivdiuals have been diagnosed with chronic Lyme, how many of them have been cured, how many continue to get worse even with treatmnet and how many lost the balltle completely. I would greatly appreciate it. I can't seem to get those answers from anyone. They probably don't exist, since the medical community does not think chronic Lyme exists. Please excuse my frustration, but we have been watching my daugher get worse for 3-years. Thanks for any help. Regards, Kevin

Hi Kevin, and welcome.

I don't have statistics; like you mention I don't even know if they exist. Lyme is so very different for each person; as far as when the disease is caught, how your immune system reacts, coinfection, etc.

I just wanted to say welcome, and I hope you are on the right path with your daughter. Don't give up, people do recover. God bless you, Amy

Oh, and your frustration is completely warranted. You are not alone; your daughter is blessed to have you.

Welcome Kevin,

This is a frustrating disease but with good proper treatment it is possible to beat. Younger kids seem to overcome LD better than adults. Statistically speaking - there is jut no way to know. People who are chronic and have gotten well must remain in treatment for years most of the time. I believe those that are well, aren't posting at forums as much as we battling would like to hear from them.

Many subjects can be found at the Board Index, there are some encouraging stories under Stories...and at the main site http://www.truthaboutlymedisease.com under Resources.

Anyway we can help or just listen - we are here for support, venting - whatever. We understand.

I have an older son w/Ld - a few of us here have kids with Ld (not to mention us too).

How old is your daughter? Has your LLMd considered IV? Really depends on age and co-infections, etc. She has been tested for co-infections? They will keep all people sick unless addressed.

Have you thought about seeing another LLMd? Sometimes if it seems things are not progressing another LLMd's opinion can help.

Do you also have Lyme?

Welcome again,
Dana

Welcome Kevin. Although I don't have exact numbers but, I can also say with proper treatment (IV being best in my opinion) the disease will get shut down and stopped 9 times out of 10. Youth is definitely a benefit also just like with any type of healing (I'm assuming your daughter is fairly young?) :)

Hey Kevin, good to see you on here! You have already gotten some responses and I am sure you will get lots of support and encouragement here...I wanted to reiterate what has already been said, that your daughter truly can and will get well, although it may seem like forever and it may take longer than you would like.

Also I want to add that she IS on the road to recovery, and although it is difficult and winding, that with you and your wife as determined as you are, and now that she is seeing a very well known and capable lyme literate doctor, that she really is on the right track.

I once asked the exact same question on this Forum, as I became increasingly concerned about ever getting well once I learned about this hideous disease. However, I am also 37 years old and was first infected at the age of twelve, so I have lots of years of lyme to beat. Your daughter is young and this is really quite early in the disease, even though it has been 3 years. Someone told me on this forum that Dr. J. said that all kids get well with proper treatment. I definately recommend reading the success stories. Definately boosts your faith!

Take care, Julie

Hi Kevin,
I'm not sure that those stats actually do exist. If they do I'm not sure how accurate, because our medical system has failed us greatly, and there are so many people out there with a dianosis of "Fibro" or one of any other 300 things, when it's actually lyme.

I think I kmnow what doc you are talking about in new york there, and I have heard good things about them.

I think most of us do have a chance of a full recovery, and if not 100% , pretty darn near close. I think, like my doc said, it's a crap shoot. when it comes to the meds. there are so many different strains of lyme, then add in co infections, and their strains... so you have to go thru the drugs, at LEAST 90 days on any one drug... a little longer is even better, they say...then you can switch to something else. SOme people do this rotatin one drug out of several, and some people do this what's called monotherapy, meaning one drug at a time...we've heard of results with both.

with lyme nothing is written in stone... there is no ONE way to follow. Just pray, and listen and He will tell you what to do.

wamrest regards
jaime
