Hello everyone! :bounce:

My name is Melissa and im 17 years old. Danny and his mom recommended I post here so I am.

I haven't been to an LLMD yet or been Igenex tested, but my symptoms all point to Babesia
and Lyme. I'll be starting Artemisinin treatment this week.

I just wanted to introduce myself and say hello! :ghug:

Hi Melissa,
I am so glad you joined us! :jumpy:

I am wondering have you or your mom called the LLMD Danny gave you? Sometimes, it can take months to get in. Calling now and finding out would be a good idea. He is suppose to be very good.

Tell everyone how many times you know you have been bitten when the last bite was and when your symptoms started..oh, tell us all of your symptoms.

Diana (sojourner) has a daughter your age so does Susan (lymeabean). Diana's daughter is doing all natural protocol, so I am hoping she can give you some natural "tips" until you can see a LLMD.

From what Danny has told me, it does sound like a case of babesia and Lyme. Tell your mom if she has any questions (because I know she suspects lyme in herself as well) to have you ask us or she can join too, ok?

Hugs,
Dana :wiggle:

Hi Missy,

Welcome to TALD. We are glad that you took that first step and joined our group. We hope that this will be a place of friendship and support to you as you go through with your testing and upcoming (hopefully soon) appointment.

My daughter is Heather. B/c of her Neuro Lyme, she generally does not post here. Her communications with other Lyme friends are mostly through one channel and that's Facebook. If you do as well, feel free to PM me and we'll get you two connected.

We are here together, so she will hop on here for a minute to greet you.
If we can be of encouragement, let us know. I hope your mom will be able to join us as well. Moms are a great encouragement to each other as our precious children, teens and young adults battle their Lyme.

I am sorry you are not feeling well. Feel free to share as you would like. We'll look forward to hearing more about you!

God bless, Sojourner

Hi Missy,
Sorry to hear you are needing to be tested. I hope you don't have Lyme; but it sounds suspicious. I hope you can find a really good doctor. We are in PA and travel to ours in CT.

Do you have Facebook? That's the easiest way for me and you can meet alot of Lyme teens who can become friends and support you. If you do not and need help setting one up, let us know on PM and I'll be glad to assist you if you're interested. We are here to support you.
~Heather

Thanks everyone for the welcome :woohoo:

Well my mom's work schedule is going to be changing so she doesn't know if shes going to be able to get off. so she has to wait, but i have been asking her and reminding her every day so she doesn't forget.

My parents are from Long Island so we always used to go back and visit family. We went one year when i was i think 3 years old, and we had gone camping. My mom told me i had been bitten there and she had found a tick in my head. She was also bitten too while we were there.

Also years ago we had lived in ft Lauderdale. There was this tree like half way in our yard and half in the neighbors. They decided they wanted to cut it down. When that happened our yard was like infested with ticks. They were everywhere! I was only 7 at the time and i remember finding a tick in my hair that had bitten me. We had moved shortly after that, but i guess we still had some ticks on one of the dogs after the move. i don't recall being bit again, but chances are i was if our dog had ticks on it.

I have been experiencing these symptoms: Shortness of breath, very fatigue, night sweats, early awakening, insomnia, nausea, hair thining, upset stomach, dizzness/lightheaded, anxiety, low temperature, my throat is always dry feeling and just generally feel flat and lifeless. i have no energy at all.

And no i don't have facebook :[
I'll look into making one though

Melissa,

Amazing to me that you and Danny have started similar symptoms recently - God works in mysterious ways...and you my darling need treatment and met the right guy to tell you so.

Keep reminding your mom how important this really is. A bite alone merits treatment. Now that you are symptomatic, you need to get into treatment asap.

My LLMD start everyone on Artemisinin, he will start them at 200mg at first to see if a herx starts, if it is tolerated well move up to 400mg.

Just two years ago it was believed only 6 weeks of Art was necessary to "cure" babesia. Then it went up to 6 months, now I read today, one year.

An LLMD likely would put you on Zithro/Mepron...working on the co-infections especially babesia first is important, but you can do concurrent Lyme treatment if he thinks you can tolerate it.

Call on Monday and ask the LLMD when they are scheduling. Lyme is an epidemic and there are long waits for appt's, at LLMD's...it could take weeks or months to get in, so find out their scheduling ok?

Let us know how you feel when you start Art.

Do you have any pain symptoms? How about your mom? What her symptoms? You should have her read the posts here.

Dana

Melissa,
This for me and Danny started in our intestines (as you may know). Left side pain can be stomac related, or spleen related. Spleen enlarges with Bartonella sometimes. This is one of my worst areas of pain, even though I have beat Bart.

Also common w/LD is h.pylori - infection of the stomach...I had it and was put on nexium/Biaxin/amoxi and it helped a lot.

Ribcage pain is common...do you think it is coming from your stomach or more to the side of the stomach?

In any case I found this abstract this morning studying (as usual) how the spirochetes (Lyme bacteria) really attack the intestines.

Danny worth you reading as well:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/1639 ... d_RVDocSum

I also get a very weird feeling of pain in my hands that comes and goes..hard to describe, most symptoms are.

Hope the Art helps to alleviate some of the Babs symptoms. If your Babs is severe, you will likely need Zith/Mepron (did I say that already??? :duh: ) and concurrent Lyme treatment. I feel for you sweetie, it isn't fun..but you have "age" on your side if you get into treatment now, eat right, take care of your body, excercise even mildly you can beat this.

My LLMD says the left side pain is the spleen very common with babesia. What about stiff neck and headaches??...nothing could get rid of.I was taking 8-10 motrin a day .Hopefully you can tolerate your meds You've got age on your side.I'm unable to take on both so I'm dealing with the Lyme at this point.
Welcome :jumpy:

Well in 2006 i had Mono and my spleen was enlarged. They had never taken an abdominal ultrasound like they were suppose to. Then a few weeks later they told me the swelling had gone down and i was released back to school. My spleen never hurt though or my stomach when i had mono.

Until about 8 months ago i started experiencing the sharp stabbing pain in my stomach, always on the left side. I never knew what it was. And also when ever that time of the month comes around i have sever bloating and stomach pains. Yeah we get cramps, but these are horrible.

I think its more to the side of my stomach then my actual stomach. I would like to get an abdominal ultrasound to make sure everything thing is alright down there though :)

Also some times i will get rib pains. like in the middle. it feels as if my ribs are touching. i don't know... very weird feeling.

I try to eat as healthy as possible, but give in to cheat meals occasionally (which is a horrible thing, i get really sick) and i used to exercise on a daily bases but i really cant anymore. I'm too weak. I just wish i could!

Melissa,
When you had (Epstein Barr virus) mono, did they "feel" the spleen enlarged? If so, it must have been fairly enlarged because an MD once told me that you can't feel an enlarged spleen until it is like 5 or 6 times its normal size. An abdominal ultra sound is necessary, absolutely.

I have had stomach pains since I was a kid, probably had LD that long too. But, it became intolerable when lyme became active in '06 - an ab ultra sound (twice) showed everything normal. It stumps me because I too get pain under my left ribcage, I don't think this is stomach pain because it is more at the bottom of the left rib cage - it can sometimes hurt inward toward the diaphragm. When herxing, it really hurts. Since an ab ultra sound showed nothing and blood tests aren't revealing much, my LLMD believes it is cartilage inflammation.

It is strange w/Lyme - many patients report having most of their symptoms on one side or the other, usually left.

You should have an ab ultra sound, it will not show your stomach however....it can't be seen too far under the ribcage and since it is not a solid organ it would show up as "air" on the ultra sound. But it would show your spleen and kidney's (kidney's can also cause referred pain), gallbladder, pancreas and liver.

Enlarged spleen can be due to viral issues such as EBV or bacterial such as Bartonella - technical term "splenomegaly" listed here under LD/co-infection symptoms: http://www.anapsid.org/lyme/symptoms/tbi-symptoms.html

Make sure to let the doctor know all this...before going, make a list of things, start now when you think of things you want to bring up and be sure to tell him about EBV and "palpitated" (by feeling) enlarged spleen.

Promise...you will call that LLMD tomorrow and see when he has appointments available, then let your mom know and see if she says to go ahead and set up an appt. It is necessary!!

D's Mom

Welcome Missy! We are so glad you are here. Ask lots of questions. My daughter Laine is 16 and has been in treatment about a year. Her symptoms are very very similiar to yours. Her main infection is Babesia but the antimalarial drugs made her so sick she is treating the Lyme first and doing much better. She is here at work with me today after one of her finals and will say howdy.

HEY EVERYBODY - LAINE IS ACTUALLY GOING TO POST!

Thank you, thank you. So glad ya'll think so highly of me. But hey, I figured you guys talked enough with out me!! Just kidding but anyway...
Hey Missy!! I'm REALLY sorry you got sick, but it's good to talk to other people to figure out what generally works and what doesn't. Plus you get to complain to people who will actually listen!!
Another girl (Heather) and I talk back and forth on facebook a lot... do you have one? We sort of send updates and check up on each other to make sure no one goes too crazy. I would really love to chat and help you out in any way I can. Just let me know!!! :woohoo:
Well I guess this is bye for another couple decades... See ya!!!!

When I had Mono they had felt the spleen enlargement and told me I couldn't do any physical activity until the swelling went down. Yeah I would really like to have an ab ultrasound done just to make sure everything is alright.

And Hello Laine! I suppose I'll be making a Facebook here soon since 2 of you have asked about it! When I make one I will let everyone know.

And today I'm felling just generally really exhausted and weak. Also last night when I was attempting sleep, my eyes were really itchy so i put some eye drops in. Now today all day my eyes have been feeling like a burning type feeling, watery and a little itchy still. After I ate my lunch today I felt really weird.. like a feeling I can't really explain and just jittery. Its all so annoying and I hope I get better! My Artemisinin did not come today. Lets hope for tomorrow!

Hey Missy you got some of the (teen) girls to post! Heather and Laine...we never hear from them!!

If they could feel your swollen spleen, it must have been quite enlarged, I can't believe they didn't follow up with ab US. Unreal!

I suppose Danny has told you I have had a horrible day..internal tremor started then pain explosion, my eyes itched last night too and I did eye drops.

Hope your art shows up soon, Iherb is usually pretty fast.

Dana

Laine hope you are still feeling better! Wish you'd post too and Heather and Gracie!!!

Hi Missy,
It's Heth's mom. Go back in to your post and edit it to remove your email address. Then, re-post to invite any of the teen members to 'pm' you if they would like your email. That way we know that you are safe and this info does not get into the wrong hands. Okay?

If any of the members sends you a pm; you will know they have been approved by Cog1st and then it is okay to share your email w/your mom's permission.

We just have to look out for each other! :wiggle:

Heth's enjoying chatting w/you!
God bless,
Sojourner

Laine had a lot of eye problems. She got an antibiotic eye drop that cleared it right up. Really inexpensive and even helps with headaches.

Susan, what was the name of the eyedrops?

Missy - I had blurry vision too. I wear glasses and I was constantly cleaning my glasses thinking they were smudged or dirty, nope it was a symptom. In treatment it will go away.

It was Sulfacet, 10%. A drop in each eye three times a day as needed. It stings (she made me do it first) but improved her vision as well and getting rid of eye pain, eye twitching and helped with the headaches. Laine also wears contacts and this didn't interfere with them other than waiting a half hour before putting them in after application.
