Jennifer: I agree!

Is there anything this little lady CAN'T do? You go, girl.

Diana: I love your hair. It really suits you. I figured out how to pause Heth's video so I could look at photos of some very familiar people and I noticed your new "do". Very nice.

What new do? What are we talking about. I want to see too! There's a whole lot of gray and that 35 pounds extra that won't go away (on top of the already 35 pounds that have been part of me).

Thank you very much Jennifer for encouraging Heth's spirit with this thread. Molly and Jaime, thank you for jumping in and offering so much joy. I shared it with her and she smiled - it was the look of 'someone really understands'. Sometimes, it may 'appear' all good. But, her battle is hard and painful, as you all understand and know. She is only 17. She was doing so much better until the Bartonella flew into our lives. Her body is trying to settle down from it and the hormones have gained their place in first position for attention - it's that horrid what they and Lyme can do on a combo platter.

I wish I could share what lies behind the scenes of just going on a wish with this type of suffering and yet, she goes. She is quiet, modest, not without thoughts and opinions, ideas and dreams, but, goes for others.

Heth finished her online college courses. It was a test. A very difficult test and one that was the only guide we had to determine where her brain 'injury' margins were. The short term memory was costly and the processing for exams was hard.

A realistic picture that I could paint for you...Heth was pulling a passing grade in Sociology; but, we were not sure how close it would be. It was the group online discussions from weekly assignments that earned her a 'B' in Sociology - by one point above a 'C'. Bear, Heth and I all had the "shocked" look on our faces when she opened her grades last night. "WHAT"? Yes, Bear and I :wiggle: :kicking: for her. We were so grateful for the encouragement for her hours of pressing through every day in the midst of. She spent hours meticulously taking notes and then tracing every word when preparing for an exam only to find that she could not find the answers in her brain during exam time. It was frustrating and discouraging for her to put so much in and walk away having to accept what seems impossible to grasp for something that is not your fault. She hears students complain about assignments that are attainable for them, gifts that they possess but do not yet realize and she wants to tell them to be so very thankful for what they have. No one knows except those 'who know' what this took for her to complete.

In the end, she realizes her brain is not ready to take on this intensity of studying yet. Her credits are hers and they will sit until she knows where they need to go forward. She has made a decision to hold off on further education for the fall. She is a young adult now. It was very costly in the pain it evoked. We think she is blessed b/c she did not fail as she thought might happen. Her 'A' was in computer business and the projects were complex - her brain fried easily. Yet, she didn't quit. She is asking the Lord what He wants her to do given what He knows about her body. She is wondering what it is all about when she is not sure what direction he is going to take her life at this point.

Molly, we do know that the Lord says that we can do all things through His strength and Bear and I have seen her rely on Him in the loss of friendships, life dreams, physical suffering and a broken brain. She does not see her accomplishments. She just does the Elisabeth Elliott's 'the next thing' out of obedience and a quiet hope. She is struggling with frustration. She's a real teen and wants to just be. She desires just one trusted friend who will walk close to her and appreciate the give and take of a deep relationship and who does not see her 'Lyme' as an obstacle.
She, and we, have faced rejection, judgment and doubt. She was always there for so many and this has been a hard, lonely couple of years in the peak of her teen life. She thanks the Lord for each blessing and sadly has difficulty remembering events, etc..

Its as if she were a vessel with a great purpose and wonderful uses, but, she cannot put her hand on what and how just yet. She is trying to find her way.

So, when you realize this is a huge accomplishment and take time to encourage her spirit, it means SO much to me. Thank you very much.

When you read her story about her wish, know that she did this for each one who has suffered. For all the Gracie's on this earth. And b/c she loves fashion, it was able to be used to accomplish a greater gift.

The auction should launch next week, Lord willing. Woohoo! It will be bittersweet to see these beautiful fashons go; but a blessing for those who will possess them.

My cup runneth over,
Diana

Diana, if I could buy those dresses with a million dollars .. I would.

They are really lovely. I would *love* to try on a Heather original. I absolutely loved the ivory one that Heather had on .. and the white one with black circles. So pretty. so so pretty.

Diana: You have a wonderful gift of communicating. I wish I was half as articulate as you. It sure doesn't surprise me that your daughter could pull a "B" in a college course while she is fighting a horrible disease. Your family is truely amazing.

I'm sure I'm remembering old photos, perhaps, but I remember you with very long hair. On Heth's site I thought I saw shoulder lenghth hair. So it may not be new to you - just me - LOL

Hugs and Blessings

Molly

Molly,
When we were in Atlanta, a lovely photo video was shown of Heth's life - about 30 pics, I think. It was accompanied by Josh Groban's You Are Loved. It was created by one of the Dad's in Atlanta after the Pure Fashion Chair-Dear-One had asked for pictures of her childhood. We had forgotten about them - this was requested weeks prior to going. It was really sweet and touching and a surprise. The first we had actually seen 'our family' even in a short chronological view. Our photos at home are everywhere and nowhere b/c of life and scrapbooking is one of those things I've never gotten to do with Heth...SO,

after the program, a lovely woman - a fashion stylist magazine publisher came and asked if she could photograph Heth and Greta, their hair fashion, and include it in her magazine. Greta had pulled two beautiful buns together in about 5 minutes in the midst of Heth's....symptoms prior to the runway show. This lovely person also asked if she could photograph my hair. I just laughed. But, she said after looking at the photos of my longgggggg hair from the previous decade, my hair was beautiful. And that I had made a great choice in getting it cut.

I am a throwback from the 70s. My hair for years traveled to my knees. Yes. Its true.

Actually, I had nothing to do with getting it cut. Heth's second grade teacher gave us $20 each - a gift before we left and said to go have our hair cut for the wish trip. This was a huge and unexpected gift. I was worried before this, for Heth's sake b/c I do realize I look quite frumpy now - weary, battleworn, ready for the pasture - you know. And it made me cry that the Lord put it on her heart to do this. Bear and I spent our adult years taking care of so many. We raised children before we were given Heth, we helped care for parents for 14 years, and a couple of elderly relatives along with sheltering moms and children of abuse. I was a career girl. Served as a liaison with the NavySeals as a civil servant. We were comfortable. This disease has taken much and it has been costly on all fronts. We always lived frugally; but this disease has been sacrificial to the point that getting a hair cut is a huge gift.

So, there I was, standing in the 'boutique' area of the Pure Fashion show. Models all around. Beauty in my daughter and her dear friend.
This is NOT my comfort zone and here is someone in fashion asking for a photo of my hair. I laughed. (She appreciated my honesty, by the way!) And I said "no thank you"!

As articulate a communicator as I may be - and thank you for your sweet words - I am NOT one to be 'out there' unless the Lord calls me to go for Him. Then, I try to not think about my insecurities and focus on the calling. I am really quite self conscious, thanks to a defunk thyroid.

Check it out: http://www.recognitionwithstyle.com/Fas ... shion.html But you won't see me there! :faint:

How did I miss this thread? Congratulations on everything you accomplish Heather - you are truly inspiring! You look so happy and beautiful dresses!

I try to tell Danny (because he gets very discouraged and depressed due the waxing and waning, feels good, feels rotten)....no matter how you feel don't let the enemy steal one minute of any day from you allowing those thoughts, believe God has a tremendous plan and this trial is necessary. This has made him stronger than it ever has in God.

You make it through life w/Lyme, with style and grace .... your mom must be so thankful for a beautiful, inspirational spirit that you are to all of us w/Lyme.

Love, Dana :flowers:

Oh Diana, Heather, how amazing. I checked out that link, Heather, your dresses are absolutely beautiful, you looked absolutly beautiful. I can't express the joy I have overflowing inside of me for you and your family.

I know how hard it is to keep that front up on the outside when inside you really just want to lay down and forget about everything for a while. It's so hard to push on sometimes. I do it everyday. I don't want my kids to see how sick I really am, most of the time I can hide it from them, but there are times it's impossible. They've been affected by this so much already. Kate won't leave my side, she's internalized it, and Michael has externalized it and has been just wicked at times.

I wish I could bid on those dresses.... If I win the mega millions I sure will be betting millions on them! haha. I do hope you raise a great amount of money, you have such a wonderful heart.

gentle hugs to all 3 of you :ghug:

Could it be that we could launch the Ebay auction next week??
So many details. Can we do it?
Can I get myself organized to put all of the pieces in the places that will complete our part?

Please pray...and when you do, would you thank the Lord for a few good days that have offered much needed relief from long pain and suffering since the Bartonella flared in January? Heth continues to have some of the symptoms and her Mycoplasma came back positive now; so we know there is much more to do as these appear like a puff of smoke from the old steam engine - a burst, unexpected, clouding the way...

but for this day, we are grateful. She was able to attend the formal with Greta this evening. And she stayed on her feet, laughed, socialized and was a.....teen. A real teen. If even for a couple of hours. She said she felt 'normal' at one moment where she just burst out with a happy response. Imagine having such a great appreciation b/c the moment is so rare.....so precious....so deserved.

Our children.....they should know joy.

Hi Susan,
NOooooo, I cannot even think to add sewing to my smorgasboard. BUT, Heth has a desire. She's missed out on some of the fundamental basics; but we are hoping to bridge that desire this fall.

She finished her two online college courses this past week. She is relieved and as shared, her grades were amazing considering what it took to achieve them. Her brain is too 'injured' yet, so Bear and I suggested her pursuing something that will offer more immediate 'fruit' to the Lord's direction in her life. We just cannot know nor imagine how this is to unfold. It is so precarious.

BUT, a sewing class to include draping will be hoped for and a friend is coming to help teach Heth how to sketch her designs a little differently. it will only be one time; but we are very grateful for the encouragement. It is a first.

Thanks Molly for helping Gina to see the auction info. And Gina thank you for your interest. Please sign Heth's guest book when you go. This is the link for the story that Dawn wrote to share Heth's testimony:
http://www.publichealthalert.org/pdfnew/2008_06.pdf

We think we will be able to get press releases out this week locally re: the auction. Still trying to get the professional photos in place; that's taking a longer time than originally offered; but, we just walk it. Also, Ebay Charity Giving Works where we will run the auction through is making some admin changes so we have to wait until their re-launch date - towards the end of this week, we believe.

Lots to gather, create, and put in place; then Bear will drive the gowns to Maryland to the Ebay Specialist who will mail each one as it is awarded. Bittersweet. !

blessing, diana
