Has anyone else experienced an out-of-no-where food allergy such as an intolerance to fiber?

Anytime I eat a food with fiber like spinach or an orange, I get diarrhea within an hour, a strong burning feeling in my upper abdomen, nausea, and overall stomach discomfort.

At first I thought it may be carbohydrates I can't tolerate since I can eat meat, and other protein/fat based foods and I'm perfectly fine. But tonight I tried a TEASPOON of a fiber powder supplement which contained 2 grams of fiber, 1 carb and within an hour I had diarrhea and an upset stomach.

As long as I don't touch the fiber, everything digestive-wise goes smooth, but eventually I become fatigued because my system isn't cleaning itself out as fast as it used to when I was eating lots of leafy green veggies and fruits. I eat a chicken breast and I'm full for 7 hours and begin to get very fatigued. As soon as I get some fiber in me and go through the diarrhea process, my energy is back and I feel better except for the upset stomach.

So confusing. What should I do?

The word hypoglycemia simply means low blood sugar. It’s often used to suggest a disease but it is actually only one symptom of a syndrome with many complaints. This complex would be better defined by the term carbohydrate intolerance. It is expressed by the body’s inability to use certain carbohydrate loads effectively without adverse consequences.

Fibromyalgia, ironically is related (aka LD) Check these websites: http://www.fibromyalgiatreatment.com/hypoglycemia.htm

Very interesting as well: http://www.healthmonitor.com/takingcare ... rance.html

Not sure if macrolide abx is cure or problem (biaxin is macrolide) but it does say "good": http://www.paratuberculosis.net/95furth ... carb_diet/

Anyone else with this problem?????

Danny, I am aweful at figuring food allergies. I know I don't eat as well as I should. In fact, I think I'm going to just start eating only fruits and veggies, raw....and nuts for a while and see what happens. I'm like your mom, and I have NO appetite at all, nothing sounds good. I eat only because I have to, and yet gain weight....ugh. I think it's a good thing you can notice what foods are bothering you....but I really don't know what to tell you.... I know we "should" have fiber in our diets to help with digestion. I guess that's one to bring up to the doc when you go next week.

Any advice given by me, is just that, advice. I am not a medical doctor, and I suggest you talk to your doctor about any concerns.

Seems like I may need more probiotics. Thank you mother for suggesting this, I'm willing to bet you're correct ;)

Today I went without antibiotics and still took my probiotics and was able to tolerate a banana, some yogurt, and other carbs & food just fine with no diarrhea or stomach issue.

Danny,

It sound like you are dealing w/spastic colon. I was trying to find a credible article to help you in your search and w/your discussion w/your physician.

Would this be helpful? ww.digitalnaturopath.com/cond/C21201.html I was thinking about the hydrochloric acid in the gut and remembered this article. Chat w/your integrative doc about this.

Combination antibiotic therapy is known and published in ILADs procedures for causing GI upset that can include Irritable Bowel Syndrome amongst others.

Your gut needs a bigger gun. Pharmax HLC Probiotics are human strain, third party tested, pure, organic and top of the line. They could help as well as what is shared in the above article.

The Palo Alto Medical Foundation says that your calcium, zinc and other minerals need to be monitored on a high-fiber diet to ensure there is no imbalance.

Here is an interesting thread, totally informal and only informative if helpful, not medical advice - but you can 'listen' in and check what you are doing with another's experience. It may or may not be helpful but you are like me in that we can sort and sift and keep what is of value based on the things the Lord has taught us and our personal experience. Mostly, it may serve to spark a ?? or two for your doctor visit. http://acidalkalinediet.com/forum/viewt ... =1077&sid= 23981763e8b94e032436b7d070eca74a

Wondering why I have these sources at the fingertips? Heth has had some of these issues. A little different perhaps from your experience; but sent me searching so that I could ask informed ??. It's not failed yet.

Thank you for your prayers. I will share w/Heth your note on my other thread.

Sorry that happens to you when you take or consume fiber. With my experience my gf who lives in florida, she was just up here :) got me kinda into a change of diet, eating more browns, whole grains, organics, less sugar, basically nothing white. Fiber has diffently made a change in intestine health for the better. it is also a good way for people who can tolerate it to detox when in treatment for lyme using antibiotics. brian

Today was a rough day. Not because of fiber or any foods, but because it looks like I have C.diff (according to Dr. Bertrand and my mother). Had VERY bad diarrhea today paired with intense nausea and just overall weakness.

I seem to be able to eat fruits and fibers though when I add more probiotics. I guess the lack of probiotics + C.diff was the problem all along. I've now started taking Flagyl to treat the C.diff. I'm also starting Neomyocin with it tomorrow.

I pray that this is the treatment that will solve all my problems I've been having these past weeks.

Thank you for all your help Diana.

love you Danny. one thing we do know is that this will pass. It's the walking through that's so challenging along the way - and the figuring out which turn in the road the Lord wants us to take. But, He does promise to go ahead of us and light the way.

It is good we have each other to line the path and cheer. Its not so lonely in spite of the hardships.

Keep walking Danny.

Brian, Danny's LLMD recommended the something very similar, then adding slowly foods in every few days to see if any "symptoms" emerge from adding these foods.

I am so confused at this GI issue and liver inflammation....is it Lyme? Is it a food allergy, is it Ehrilchiosis? He fits all of them.

Can't wait to have some of these intestinal issues ruled out....but when LD started for me, after the cortisone shots, it destroyed my intestines, I went through much of what he is now, but amoxi/biaxin/nexium cleared the GI symptoms in 6 weeks. Not so easy with Danny trying to figure out if this really an additional infection on top of tick borne diseases...'nough to make crazy trying to figure this out.
