At this point, are their really any awkward questions. So used to talking about all the crazy things that go on in my body... Anywho- my (need to get out the books to remember all the female genital parts are called:) ) crotch (hope that's not offensive) Has been pretty raw in some places for about 2 months. It does not seem like a yeast infection- no discharge, not in censored... Is this a Lyme thing? I'm wondering if my poop and pee are so toxic that it burns me. How the heck knows?! Any thoughts?
Thanks for being willing to be vulnerable!!
polly

Polly,
I have heard of this in several women. One I know cannot wear pants I have heard because it is too painful. I have heard it referred to as vulvodynia. I hope Molly sees this post (I believe she has had similar symptoms) and can comment or help.

Here is an article, does this sound like it? http://www.nytimes.com/2008/01/29/health/29brod.html

Good to see you,
Dana

When you say "raw" does that mean itchy too? I would think yeast infection is possible, I don't think you need to see a discharge necessarily.

I'm one of the "lucky" ones who experience vulvar pain (vulvodynia) as a Lyme (most likely Bartonella)symptom.

You say raw - is the skin white or do you have white patches? Does it itch umbearably? If so, it could be Lichen Schlerosis - also associated with Lyme. LS is very treatable with topical steroid creams. Topical steroids are OK to use (not like the kind we ingest which can further complicate Lyme Disease).

Feel free to PM me with the gory details - I've had vulvar pain since 2005 and I'm somewhat of an expert!

I just found out they are doing a story on Vuvlodynia next Friday on ABC:

ABC's 20/20 Features Segment on Sexual Pain, Vulvodynia
Friday, August 7, 10pm ET

Be sure to tune into 20/20 next Friday at 10pm ET, when Dr. Timothy Johnson, ABC News' Chief Medical Editor, will discuss the diagnosis and treatment of sexual pain disorders and vulvodynia with Andrew Goldstein, MD, and Amy Stein, MPT. Dr. Goldstein directs the Center for Vulvovaginal Disorders in Washington, DC, and New York City. Ms. Stein, a New York-based physical therapist, specializes in the treatment of pelvic and urogynecological pain disorders. The segment will also feature the stories of two women with sexual pain, as well as an interview with Christin Veasley, NVA's associate executive director, and her husband Melvin. To check your local listings, visit: http://www.tvguide.com/Listings/default.aspx.

They call it "sexual" pain but mine hurts more sitting or wearing clothing than it does when I have sex.

You could try D-Mannose, if capule form open the capsule and put in your mouth, instead of swallowing it whole. It is a little sweet tasting not bitter, and tollerable. If you swallow it whole then you need to take more. usually one pill that way, or mixed in food, applesauce, yougert, sometimes two, works for me.

My daughter just had a baby, and got a uninary tract infection, the docs have been treating it for a month, she stoped in I gave her a few capsuals (found in health food stores) she called me yesterday and said, guess what, I'm cured after one dose, LOL so it doesn't just work for me.

Hope it works for you! Have a great day.
