Hi,

I got a flyer from Edison today, and something caught my eye. They have a "medical baseline allowance" program, here's the scoop:

If you have an illness (they list MS, autoimmune illness, etc.) OR "any other condition for which additional heating or cooling is medically necessary to sustain the person's life or PREVENT DETERIORATION of the person's medical condition" you are eligible for a discounted baseline electricity rate. I am excited about this, because the heat really bothers me and our bill is huge in the summer trying to keep the house cool enough so I don't feel sick.

There is a two page form, your doctor signs the second page but you do not need to give any diagnosis.

I'm in CA, so I went to the SCE website and pulled the form. Other states may have a similar program. Hope this helps someone else. Looks like I might save up to $50.00 per month. :kicking:

Hi Amy,

Thanks for bringing this up. We also have the same thing with our utility companies here. I save quite a bit on gas and electric, they take off a percentage every month that REALLY adds up big.

Here you don't have to have a medical reason, if your income falls below a certain level you qualify. The thing is they set the income levels rather high in my opinion - also based on how many members live in the house.

There are also property tax discounts and other savings programs. I use to know of a link that you could check for ways to save if lower income.

We have to take advantage of them all.

I am glad you thought to post this, I never thought to! :duh:

Love,
Dana
