There has been new legislation introduced before the U.S. House of Representatives:
Bill is HR 1179. It is called The Lyme and Tick-Borne Diseases Prevention, Education, and Research Act of 2009. This bill was introduced Feb 25, 2009 so maybe information has already been posted here.

Please consider contacting your U.S. House Representative and State Senators. Instructions are below:

http://www.cwork.com/

To verify if your State Representative has signed on to support this bill, please reference the site below, and click on the blue link called Co-sponsors. So far 59 representatives have signed on to support. This list is updated as more sign support.

If you believe this bill will help Lyme sufferers, please help spread the word. The more of us contacting representatives, the better.

Part of the language of this bill is to create more accurate testing in diagnosing Lyme and Tick-borne illnesses.

One of the goals of this legislation is to create more accurate testing which is desperately needed. They will also study co-infections. If you believe this legislation will help us and Lyme sufferers, will you write your rep if there name is not on the list.

For those who may be following, the Senate just introduced legislation yesterday, for Lyme and Tick born illnesses, Bill # S.1352 and has 5 co-sponsors already.

http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=s111-1352

To View Co-sponsors:
http://www.thomas.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/D ... d8YT9:@@@N

So we have legislation both in the House and the Senate

Please contact US House Representative to asking them to co-sponsor HR 1179.

Please contact both your state Senators asking them to co-sponsor S.1352

To contact them is really easy. Go to http://www.cwork.com click on your state, scroll down, and your House and Senate Reps name and phone numbers will be there. If there names are not in green, would you call them and ask them to co-sponsor their bill. Thank you for your help.

Just encouraging folks to contact:

* Their Senators to co-sponsor Senate bill # S. 1352
* Their House Representatives to co-sponsor HR 1179

If we do not contact them, please know that the IDSA will. In years past, legislation has been introduced, and here is the letter IDSA sent to a Senator:

http://idsociety.org/WorkArea/showcontent.aspx?id=10818

There has been no response to this thread, so I am not sure if this legislation is viewed as controversial so I may not post about it any longer. I know some of us are so sick to even type much less contact our Congress. But I know our real hope is in God, not legislation. This legislations goal is to create more accurate testing of Lyme and tick born illnesses, which can help prevent years of people needlessly suffering or being misdiagnosed.
