I am reading some of Buhner's book - killing ld naturally book and he mentions that they took a certain amount of LD patients put them on diflucan for 25 days and it cleared all symptoms. One year later they were still fine.

Diflucan crosses the BBB and might kill lyme and be a cyst buster and it rids the body of "systemic" yeast!! In the Uk the alternate it with the penicillins and say it works awesome.

Problem...it interacts w/ many drugs including anti-anxiety and even abx. It is a very strong drug, similar to Zithro, one dose lasts 1 week in the body.

In the UK they advise going off abx for a month while on diflucan, then follow with the penicillins. They really believe in the penicillins and not the Tetra's at all over there. This link is interesting, check it out: http://www.immunesupport.com/library/sh ... fm/id/6431

Has anyone tried this - good or bad to report?

There is a Dr. in Germany (can't remember his name) that was his own first patient. He treated himself successfully for Lyme with Diflucan. I seem to remember 30 day intervals (don't hold me to that) but can't remember anything about the rest of the treatment.

My Dr. believes that Diflucan treats Lyme but says they aren't sure exactly how. I am on 200 mgs per day - don't have systemic yeast but I get vaginal yeast. I started 3 x per week and over time had to recently go up to a daily dose. I surely don't know what I'm going to do if I get a yeast infection when i'm on it everyday!!!

I am seriously thinking of taking an ABX break this summer and doing Cowden for a few months. Then maybe I could even wear a bathing suit and go out in our boat with hubby (without worrying about the dreaded yeast).

Honestly, I get fed up with my Vulvodynia - can't wear clothes due to the pain. I am in my nightgown ALL day unless I go out. I wear mostly dresses or very soft pants (leggins or sweats) and even then can't wear clothes very long. This summer I have a wardrobe of knee length dresses and I am determined to wear clothes like a normal person (no panties unless I leave the house). I haven't worn jeans in THREE years.

Wah Wah I'm done whining now.

I'm not on it full time. Only when I feel like I'm getting the beasty yeasty down south or I notice an increase of dandruff or yeast in my mouth. At first I was taking it 3 days a week. then it was down to 2 days a week. I can't remember the last time I took it. I am not really prone to yeast infections down there ... but I do get yeast in my mouth, hair, and stomach. I don't notice the stomach ... (it causes cramping), but whenever I start to get severe dandruff I know it's probably in my ears, mouth, and stomach too. So I take it a couple days and then the dandruff disappears.

I also use Nizoral over the counter dandruff shampoo. Helps tremendously.

Molly/Jennifer - Are you both on good strong probiotics and stil getting yeast? Long before LD whenever I was put on abx, 10 days of abx and I would inevitably get a yeast infection. But funny, I have had none since being on abx 20 months and I take Natures way Primadophilus Optima 35 billion cfu. They are constantly sold out at our local vitamin store, so I buy at iherb.com . I also added saccharomyces boulardii, which they say is most important if on the penicillin's.

Molly - I was just reading about a woman who had a hard time with vag yeast infections, they put her diflucan, nystatin, etc. Finally she said she just went to the store and bought some OTC product, like Monostat and it worked. I have read Diflucan can take months to work, but you are taking a large dose so it is good really. Let us know if you start feeling better in general - have you had any herx on diflucan?

I was the first person to bring up saccharomyces boulardii at the first forum I was at, but no one had heard of it and it would go through w/o comments. Now, LLMD's are recommending it be taken with a strong probiotic. So I take these two:

I once felt like I was getting a vag yeast infection and I remembered at the first LD forum there was at a girl mentioned she would just insert a probiotic and went away. Well I tried that and it worked GREAT.

In the link in my first post above, one man said diflucan got rid of his LD and he was so excited about it he wanted the makers of it to market it as a Lyme killer. This is why they believe it kills LD:

There are several reasons. First of all, it inhibits an enzyme called cytochrome P450. This is an enzyme that your liver, for instance, uses to detoxify chemicals and drugs. Borrelia has a very primitive p450 defense, so if you inhibit it, it is easily weakened. Therefore I believe that diflucan inhibits the growth and replication of borrelia. It does not necessarily kill it. In addition, it penetrates well into the cells and into the nervous system and brain, where borrelia may hide.

I use Probiotics ... I really DON'T get vaginal yeast infections. It's mainly my scalp that gets most of the yeast.

Hi Dana: I've been prone to yeast infections off and on since I was 17 years old. I was very surprised that I don't have systemic yeast but I get tested regularly.

In the spring of 2005 I got a very bad yeast infection and the chronic vulvar pain was a result of overuse of the topical medications - this is a cause of Vulvadynia is some women. So I avoid Monistat, etc. Vulvodynia is also a symptom of Lyme so I hope and pray it goes away when I get well. When I get a little yeastie down there I use boric acid suppositories. Even they are a little irritating but I only have to use them for three days if I catch it quickly.

I take TONS of probiotics including FemDophilus which is made for vaginal issues. I have four different types of Probiotics the strongest is NSI 15-35 (15 strains and 35 Billion Microorganisms)

I also take a small dose of Nystatin daily and avoid sugar and bad carbs. I've never herxed on Diflucan that I know of.

Hugsw

Molly

Hubby is on diflucan. He takes it daily along with Tetra. Now I'm wondering if the diflucan might be interfering with the antibiotic? LLMD didn't mention anything about it........ ?

Hi Boomerang,
Welcome to our forum!!!
No diflucan shouldn't interfer with antibiotics, I don't think, since they really should be prescribed together anyway!!

I have to post a big welcome in the main forum to you...happy to have you with us, if you need anything, let me know, I am the website owner or Silver is the moderator.

Dana

When I first started Diflucan I asked the pharmacist if I had to space the Diflucan and he said I could take it at the same time as my ABX.

This works out well because you need to space the probiotics and anti-fungals from the ABX.
