Susan,
I just wanted to say I saw your post at the other forum to me, under "Can't take much more". I decided to respond here because of the switch, I wanted to make sure you saw my post.

I want to tell you thank you so much for your loving message. I love you and Laine too, you are in my prayers too and I so much appreciate your prayers for me.

It has been ultra rough lately. It can be discouraging at times, some days more than others, you think things are getting under control or maybe you have been through the worst of it and then your hopes are crushed and back to square A.

It is hard to believe 20 months of treatment and I just feel I should be well. But you think I would know better, this is a disease that takes time, time, time. My LLMD always says, "Lyme is a marathon, not a sprint" & I like what your LLMD wrote..."The turtle wins the race, not the rabbit".

Hard to accept when you are in so much pain all the time.

How is Laine doing?

Dana

Well she started on morphine last night and went to school this morning and says she feels no improvement in her pain levels. I've been reading all morning, really scary. No side serious side effects other than heart attack and cessation of breathing. In my house I have a larger and larger store of vials I have to keep under lock and key. When Laine is really bad I don't know what she will do since she doesn't remember a lot of stuff so I don't leave anything accessible. That would really hurt her feelings to read that.

Yes, unfortunately not much helps this pain, like I said Xanax was the best pain reliever of them all.

All narcotic medications are made from Morphine and yes, can be dangerous if you use too much. However, they have been around for many years and don't cause some of the dangerous effects of the newer drugs.

Be sure to read the link I posted to you under your other post, there is a short "interview" I had with the leading pain management specialist that changed laws in California. He told me the older "narcotics" are much safer than drugs today like Celebrex, Ultram, etc.

It is a good idea to keep under lock and key. Being on these drugs makes the memory worse and one can forget they did a dose and dose again and then it could get dangerous. I remember when my husband was on morphine and duragesic patches after back surgery...he began to hallucinate. I was in charge of the medications, but once the hallucinating started I knew he was taking way too much and cut his dose dramatically. I finally found the level that made his "mind" return, although he could still feel pain at that level.

We never get rid of the pain entirely, we only can take the "edge off" some, many w/LD will tell you Xanax is the drug of choice, for some reason it works. The only thing that will alleviate the pain entirely is getting rid of the bacteria.

Addiction is rare by the way and there are many good links within the link I gave you in your other post. Here is one from Web MD: http://www.webmd.com/pain-management/dr ... -addiction

Keep us posted...I will be thinking about her.
